He let that poor little boy die. Kagome could not erase the image of the wounded boy’s final moment. “How could Raygan do such a thing?” she asked.
“I bet he’s under Naraku’s spell!” Inuyasha assumed the worst.
“Inuyasha!” shouted Miroku as he and Sango met up with Inuyasha and Kagome.
“We saw the whole thing,” said Sango.
“What’s wrong with Raygan?” Shippo worried.
“Raygan’s sudden change in behavior must be attributed to Naraku’s mind control,” Miroku agreed with Inuyasha.
“What do we do?” cried Shippo.
“We can’t kill him. He’s our friend,” said Sango.
“But he’s a threat now!” scowled Inuyasha.
“He’s a mortal, Inuyasha. Can you bring yourself to kill him?” ask Miroku.
Inuyasha gave no response.
“None of us can stand up to him,” added Miroku.
“We have to!” pressed Inuyasha.
Raygan glared at them. Sango’s and Kagome’s hearts raced.
We have to try not to hurt him, but we must also stay clear of his sword. Miroku examined Raygan. Who knows what new powers he’s gained from that jewel shard?
Inuyasha twitched his ears and sniffed the air.
“What is it, Inuyasha?” asked Kagome.
The others turned to Inuyasha.
“I smell Naraku!”
An evil, restrained laugh came from the woods. All but Raygan faced the woods. A bamboo skin-covered man walked slowly out of the woods.
“Naraku!” shouted Miroku.
“What have you done to our friend!” shouted Shippo.
Naraku laughed again.
Inuyasha withdrew the Tessaiga. “You came here to die, Naraku? You’ve kept me waiting!”
“You are wrong, Inuyasha. I came here to watch you die. You see Raygan is now my humble servant. I found out firsthand how powerful he truly it and I must say, he is powerful for a mortal. This will prove to be quite a show. Raygan, with a host of dragons and demons at his call, versus you and your pathetic friends.”
“Why don’t you fight me yourself, you coward!” shouted angry Inuyasha.
“I’m busy building up my demon strength.”
“Sounds like you need your full strength to take on a half demon like me, huh!”
“Bold of you to say, Inuyasha, but that will not help you. Like I pitted Kikyo to betray you so I have done the same with your new friend. I do enjoy our battles, Inuyasha. I find it more amusing to strike emotional turmoil in your heart and your friends’ hearts. I will witness as your new friend destroys each of your close friends. You friends will restrain from killing him, but he will show no such restraint! He belongs to me just like Kohaku!”
Sango’s eyes watered thinking about her little brother. The dreadful memories of Naraku turning her brother against her and her family flooded her mind. She thought of the confrontations she’s had with her brother. Now Sango was facing the same situation. A man she has been getting to know and care about is presumably her enemy. Sango knows Raygan is powerful and that with the added jewel shard in his arm, Raygan is even stronger.
“Poor, Sango. The pain will never end,” Naraku said with an evil smile.
“I’ve heard enough!” shouted Inuyasha.
Naraku prepared to flee. Inuyasha held his sword over his head. The Tessaiga pointed at the darkening sky.
“Naraku, prepare to die—huh?” Inuyasha’s body beat.
“Inuyasha!” shouted Kagome.
Inuyasha’s body beat once more. The Tessaiga returned to normal. The breeze blew against Inuyasha. His white hair turned black. His dog ears were replaced with human ears.
“Oh, no!” trembled Shippo.
“What’s this?” Naraku watched with keen interest.
“Inuyasha, you must flee!” suggested Kagome.
Inuyasha held Tessaiga angrily in his hands. His heart beat raced. He was fully human.
Naraku looked at the night sky.
“Hmm, no moon. I seem to have found your weakness, Inuyasha. I feel deeply saddened Raygan will have to destroy you in your weakest condition, but I guess the fight is even; you both are now mortal!”
Miroku began to remove his cloak from his hand. A cloud of poisonous insects appeared in the sky. Miroku frowned and warped his hand. Sango was tempted to throw her boomerang at Naraku.
“Why do you all look at me so? It is not me you will be fighting. You will be fighting Raygan.”
Raygan stood on the same spot near the dead boy. Kagome saw the glow of the jewel shard implanted in Raygan’s right arm.
“Inuyasha, you must run away!” she pleaded.
“Kagome, I’m not going to run. I’m not fighting a demon. I’m fighting a human. This is now a fair fight. You and the rest should stand clear.”
“I won’t let you face him alone,” said Miroku.
“Neither will I,” said Sango.
Naraku laughed. Kagome could not take his laughing any more. She ran to her bike to fetch her bow and arrow.
“Raygan, destroy Inuyasha and his friends. Enjoy killing them!” ordered Naraku.
“Die, Naraku!” shouted Kagome releasing her arrow.
The arrow flew in the air glowing in a bright aura. The sacred arrow pierced Naraku in the heart. He was destroyed. A demon puppet fell on the ground.
Miroku frowned. “I knew he was not real.”
“He’s not our problem anymore,” said Inuyasha.
Inuyasha, Miroku and Sango faced Raygan. Shippo ran to Kagome’s side. Raygan glared at them waiting for his moment to strike.
*******
So Inuyasha, you lose your demon strength on the eve of the new moon.
Naraku walked down the hall of his castle thinking to himself. Kanna walked closely behind him.
If all goes as planned, Raygan will destroy you and your friends. Once Raygan brings me the shards Kagome carries the Shikon Jewel will be almost complete! I will finally be able to become a full demon and be rid of Onigumo’s heart!
Naraku removed a shard off his Shikon Jewel piece and handed it to a bee. The bee flew away. Naraku laughed softly. Kanna followed wondering about what he was thinking about.

A moonless night. This night feels colder than usual. The winds are becoming stronger. I smell something familiar heading in our direction.
Sesshomaru stood tall against the cold wind. The breeze combed his hair away from his face. His eyes were as sharp as a hawk. He appears to not have a care in the world. Jaken and Rin rubbed their arms to keep warm.
“Lord Sesshomaru, it is becoming strangely cold tonight,” concluded Jaken.
“Lord Sesshomaru, I’m cold,” whined Rin sitting on her knees hugging herself.
“We must press forward,” Sesshomaru said.
“Why, Lord Sesshomaru?”
“Something comes this way.”
“Lord Sesshomaru, I’m too cold to move,” complained Rin.
“Get up, Rin. We must not linger.”
“But—”
“We cannot stay here.”
Rin picked herself up and mounted herself on the large, two-headed, dragon Aun. Sesshomaru raised his eyes to the night sky. Sesshomaru’s Tenseiga and Toukijin hung on his belt. Jaken quivered. He felt he is going to need them soon.
*******
Kagura searched from atop her feather transport looking for Sesshomaru. The dead little dragon’s body lay on the back of the feather.
I hope he’s nearby! Seeshomaru, where are you?
The feather swooped down a bit than sped in a westward direction straight for Seeshomaru.
*******
Raygan reached for the two swords on his back. Hundreds of demons appeared overhead. Poisonous insects hovered in the forest around them. Raygan withdrew his swords. Miroku and Sango braced themselves for his charge. Inuyasha held his Tessaiga in his hands. Kagome rushed over to Inuyasha.
“Inuyasha, you mustn’t face him!”
“I have to, Kagome.”
“Please don’t,” her eyes gleamed.
Inuyasha understood Kagome’s concern. “Kagome, why are you asking me to stand down but not Sango and Miroku?”
“They’ll know when they are defeated but you, Inuyasha; you wouldn’t stop even if you’re wounded. You’d keep fighting to the last breath. I don’t want to lose you like this. You’re human now. Let Shippo and me defend you.”
“You two can’t hold back Raygan.”
“We can hold back the demons! Raygan’s only human. He’ll tire. Kirara and the others will hold him off.”
“You actually think Miroku and Sango will fight Raygan?”
“Not to the death.”
“Kagome, I have to fight,” Inuyasha could not let himself be talked out of fighting.
“I’m not going to cower because I’m human. Besides, Raygan and I are now fair game.”
“But, Inuyasha, who knows what that jewel shard has increased in him.”
Raygan approached them slowly.
“He’s coming!” alarmed Shippo.
Inuyasha and Kagome looked at Raygan carrying his two swords in his clenched hands. Sango drew her sword. Miroku held his staff firmly.
“Kagome, run for cover!” shouted Miroku.
Kagome and Shippo ran to a nearby tree. Kagome picked up her bow and arrow bag.
Shippo looked around them. “We’re surrounded, Kagome!”
“Don’t worry, Shippo, we’ll make it out of this,” Assured Kagome. I hope Raygan makes it too.
Inuyasha stood on guard with the Tessaiga. Raygan was coming closer.
“We have a greater chance to get out of here if he doesn’t use Flaron,” said Inuyasha.
Miroku and Sango nodded. Raygan charged. Inuyasha and Miroku prepared to defend themselves. Raygan jumped between Miroku and Inuyasha clashing his swords against the Tessaiga and Miroku’s staff. Raygan pushed off Miroku and went after Inuyasha. Inuyasha blocked Raygan’s swings. He kept pushing Inuyasha towards a tree. Miroku brought his staff down on Raygan. Raygan quickly swung his left arm over him to defend his back. Raygan then kicked Inuyasha against the tree and smacked Miroku to the ground. He turned to Inuyasha. Raygan raised his sword above his head. Inuyasha leapt out of the way as Raygan brought his sword crashing down on the tree. The tree split in two. The ground cracked around Raygan. Inuyasha’s and Miroku’s eyes widened.
“The shard gave him superior strength!” shouted Miroku.
“We fight any way!” charged Inuyasha.
Miroku and Inuyasha continued to battle Raygan.
The demons flew in circles above them like a school of fish. Shippo hid behind Kagome. Kagome was afraid, but she needed to do something to help her friends including Raygan.
“What’s taking those demons so long?” asked Kagome to herself.
Sango watched helplessly as Raygan smashed the ground every time Inuyasha and Miroku dodged his slashes. Miroku and Inuyasha attacked Raygan from both sides. Raygan brought his arms together as if to hug himself. As Inuyasha and Miroku neared to strike Raygan swung his arms apart sending them flying backwards. Sango lunged herself into battle. She clashed her sword against Raygan’s. Their eyes met. Sango read Raygan’s eyes.
“Raygan, you don’t want to do this! I’ve been in your position! Fight Naraku’s mind control! We’re your friends,” she told him.
Raygan’s heart beat picked up pace. The demons overhead began spinning faster preparing to come to Raygan’s aid.
*******
Seeshomaru stopped walking. Jaken and Aun stopped as well. Rin sat up hugging herself to keep warm.
What is it that Lord Seeshomaru senses? Jaken wondered what ran through his head.
Seeshomaru caught the sight of a feather floating in the air. Jaken and Rin looked up at the night sky.
“Lord Seeshomaru, that feather flies towards us,” said Rin.
“That must be the wind sorceress. She has come to seek your help again!” predicted Jaken.
Seeshomaru did not move. The feather began its decent to the ground. The blowing wind announced Kagura’s arrival. Seeshomaru kept his eyes on the feather.
What does she want now?
Seeshomaru was quite certain Kagura came to him with a grievance. The feather floated to a halt then popped into a small feather. Kagura caught the feather with her free hand. She carried the dead dragon with the other hand. Seeshomaru kept his glare on Kagura. She approached him slowly.
“Wind Sorceress, what brings you here this time?” asked Sesshomaru coldly.
“Lord Seeshomaru, I’ve come to ask of your assistance,” asked Kagura with a bow.
“What is that you carry?”
“This is a dragon.”
“It’s dead.”
“Precisely.”
“You want me to bury it?”
“I ask you to restore its life.”
Seeshomaru frowned. “What makes you think I can bring this lizard creature back to life?”
Jaken was confused. “Lord Sesshomaru, you can bring—”
“Silence, Jaken!”
Jaken quivered.
“Naraku studied the great swords your father left for you and your brother,” Kagura responded. “The Tenseiga you carry can bring the dragon back to life. It has the power to return the creature’s soul.”
“What makes you think I’ll help you raise this dragon from the dead?” Seeshomaru glared at her.
Kagura lifted her head and looked straight at Seeshomaru. Seeshomaru noticed her eyes were different.
“This dragon belongs to the dragon master that helped set me free from Naraku’s bond.”
“So you mean to tell me you are a coward. You could not face Naraku alone. Now you have the grief of this dragon master to bear the rest of your life. Hmm.”
“I ask that you return him to his master then maybe he will not take your dragon for his own.”
“What makes you think he will come for my dragon?”
“He is a dragon master. He collects dragons for his own.”
“That’s supposed to convince me to raise his dragon from the dead? How pitiful.”
“He’s under Naraku’s spell! He freed me but could not escape in time. He is now working for Naraku!”
“This is your fault entirely. Do not come asking me to fix your problems.”
Sesshomaru turned and walked away. Jaken, Aun and Rin followed after him. Kagura called out to Sesshomaru, but he ignored her and kept on his way.
*******
What could be running through his mind? Kagome stared at Raygan and Sango. They’ve been standing there for a while now and those demons are getting closer!
Miroku and Inuyasha waited in suspense. Raygan was not moving. Sango tried to read his face hiding behind his mask. Raygan breathed deeply. He tried controlling his body but a voice inside him kept telling him to kill her and the others. He began sweating cold.
“Die,” he murmured.
Sango gasped. Miroku pushed Sango away from Raygan’s attack. Raygan formed an “X” with his swords to defend himself from the attacking Inuyasha. Inuyasha clashed against Raygan’s swords. Raygan kicked Inuyasha then slashed at him. Inuyasha tripped on a rock and fell backwards. Raygan raised his swords over his head. Miroku tackled Raygan and pinned him to the ground.
“Raygan, snap out of it!” said Miroku.
The demons began to swoop down to attack. Kagome put an arrow against the string of her bow.
“Sango, we’ll deal with Raygan,” Inuyasha called out to Sango. “Help Kagome!”
Sango nodded, put her sword away and grabbed her boomerang. Kirara ran at her side. Kagome released her arrow. The sacred arrow took out much of the first wave of demons. The second wave came down faster.
“Hiraikotsu,” Sango shouted releasing the boomerang.
The boomerang cut through the demons like a knife against butter. Kirara attacked the low sweeping demons trying to flank them. Kagome released another arrow. Shippo used fox fire to create a giant wall between the demons and him and Kagome.
“That ought to hold them off for a bit,” said Shippo.
The demons stopped their assault on Kagome and Shippo because the wall was colored just like the background; it was a camouflaged wall. The demons were confused. To the demons Kagome and Shippo disappeared.
Raygan twirled around and hit Miroku in the face with the handle of his sword. Inuyasha hit Raygan from behind. Raygan fell forward. He slowly got back on his feet. Inuyasha and Miroku were tired but more so was Raygan. Inuyasha and Miroku knew Raygan was fighting himself as well as them.
“He’s wearing down, Inuyasha.”
“Stay on your guard, Miroku.”
Miroku nodded. A bee flew over to Raygan carrying a sparkling object. Inuyasha and Miroku looked on. The bee dropped the item into Raygan’s palm.
“What is that?” asked Miroku.
Raygan made a wound above his left arm.
“It’s another jewel shard!” shouted Inuyasha.
Raygan inserted the new shard into his wound. The power of the shards flowed through both arms. Miroku and Inuyasha took a step back.
“This is bad, Inuyasha.”
“I don’t want to have to kill him.”
“I don’t want him to kill us!” added Miroku.
